THOUGHT FOR THE DAY// A public relations professional who prescribes every client with a publicity plan is like seeing a physio who prescribes every patient with the same treatment plan.
Somehow many PR professionals and their clients have come to expect that media relations is the only and rightful way to solve PR problems for businesses and build brand. It isn’t.
PR is tactic and platform agnostic. The quicker client and consultant can understand this, the more at peace our industry will be and greater impact our efforts will achieve for all who take-up PR as an investment.
Pros >>Don’t let clients default your capabilities into a 1990s approach to PR that no longer works.
Have you noticed that #TheBigQuit and the #TheVibeShift has seen a heap of PR professionals exit the industry for good??
One of the reasons contributing to this is that every business needs PR, but many don’t understand it. And so it doesn’t cultivate a great culture. Education and reporting FACTS becomes 90% of our work on top of the actual work. Also many Pros simply fatigue from the need to hot-shoe-shuffle from the new to the newer comms platform of the day (Hello TikTok and BeREAL).
What are your thoughts on why PR Pros are hop-skip-and-cartwheeling out of the biz?
