Should My Company Blog Have a Sub-Domain?

So you have a consumer friendly website and now you want to start a blog. But you’re not sure if you should separate your blog from your website or house it via a sub-domain.

Almost always, I recommend that the blog and website live together, happily ever after. Why wouldn’t you want to integrate your blog and website so that they can work harmoniously together? After all, good blog content drives organic search, brand awareness, credibility, website visitation and ultimately sales.

A well-written blog is a great way for your target audience to get to know your business in an engaging, relatable way. On top of that an integrated blog creates a seamless visitor experience and minimises the possibility of losing traffic to an external domain from your website.

Having a blog within your website helps to position your brand as an authority leader in your space. And having more content pages within your website will allow your company’s pages to rank better in search results. Not to mention blog content is a cheap form of advertising since you can share your brand values through carefully curated content via your CMS for free.

While there are some cases where keeping a separate blog would be justifiable (i.e. you might one day want to sell your blog but keep you company website, or you might want to promote your blog as its own brand), however if your company website is your main focus, any SEO-building efforts will be more effective when your blog is part of your website.
